Ken Lacey MBE
 

Chairman - Weston-super-Mare Senior Citizens Forum

 

Ken Lacey has been actively involved in working in the interests of the local community for most of his life, starting in his younger days with coaching youngsters with learning difficulties in the art of angling.  His main interests have always been in the community and he has been involved with numerous organisations and Committees.  He has received several awards over the years culminating in being invested with the MBE by HM The Queen in July 2005.

 

He was a District Councillor (Independent) for 20 years representing the Council as Chairman 1994/95 and on his retirement he was appointed Hon Alderman he also served as Charter Trustee and Town Councillor (Independent) for twenty years and represented  the Town as Town Mayor  in 1988/89. 

 

He is President of the Abbeyfield (Weston-super-Mare) Society which is a charity offering accommodation in a caring environment at minimum cost.  He is also President of the RNLI (Weston-super-Mare Branch) and the TS Weston Sea Cadet Corps.

 

In 2000 his interest was caught by the development of Senior Citizens Forums.  He was a founder member of the successful Weston-super-Mare Senior Citizens Forum and elected as Chairman at the Forum?s inaugural meeting in December 2000.  He has since established Forums in other areas and firmly believes that the senior citizen?s voice should be heard and that they should play an active part to benefit future generations of pensioners.

 

As a result of his work with the Senior Citizens Forum he was invited to serve on the ?Speaking Up for our Age Steering Committee? and has spoken on issues affecting the older person at national conferences and seminars.  Having promoted the idea of a Regional Forum. Ken served on the initial Working Party to formalise the idea of a Regional Forum which has now been accepted and is up and running.
