ALAN MAY - SENIORS CHAMPION

(I received a very very very cryptic biog from Alan and asked him to expand it a little!  This is the result - with a minimum of editing -  from a truly great guy)

ALAN MAY'S BIOG

Alan May was born in Manchester ,England.   Schooled in Manchester ,Bournemouth and Teddington ,  Left School at 14 years old.
Worked at Metropolitan Vickers Manchester. Tea boy and tool gofer till 15yr old.
Joined Merchant Navy and flunked vision test for deck apprentice, so joined catering staff as Galley Boy .that's a Spud Barber and Pot Washer.
Grew up fast seeing a ship torpedoed on second day out off northern Ireland 1940.  Got shot up but not sunk in those years. Almost 2years on a 28 year old ship (old east coast collier) SS Ousel ,shallow Draft, no Refrigerator - shipping Goods - prisoners, lots of Ammunition.  Around the Mediterranean including Sicily and Salerno Landings. 

Shipped home on M.V Circassia from Algiers after injury in a Football match with Royal Navy. Stupid Kid..

Certificated Ships Cook 1943 (Never tossed overboard by Crew).  Next Ship Was Fort Boise to Murmansk in February '45 Arctic weather but got home safely .
Then to Pacific, the Beautiful Marshall islands on Liberty ship Samshee then through the Panama Canal to join a huge convoy assembled for Okinawa and Japan I guess.
Then the A Bomb was dropped and we were diverted to Singapore and on to Durban S.A. and was taken off the ship with appendicitis and after surgery and a wonderful convalescence.  Shipped home on the Empress of Scotland pre war Empress of Japan.

Married to Ruby 23rd March 1946. After a correspondence Courtship.  Did two more Voyages around the world and in 1947 moved  To South Africa, Zululand.

Two boys born there. Managed tyre retreading business in Empangeni Zululand.  A beautiful Country and People.

Returned to UK 1961 To family hotel at Bude, Cornwall. With siblings
Expanded three old houses to a 33 room hotel with restaurant, ballroom and public Bar for Summer Holidays and Winter Banqueting.

 Moved to Vancouver in July '73 Real estate and Insurance Business. Selling and Insuring homes.
To Vancouver Island '83  Canada and retired.  Aint goin' nowhere else!!

Then I found out my Pension was never going to change in value. Boy was I mad!
so I joined the Canadian Alliance of British Pensioners.  Met My Cockney oppo' Bernard Jackson on the B.C.Committee sixteen Years ago and started fighting again.
Fighting the Government that we both fought for in the War!  to get our Pensions Indexed  to the Cost of Living the same as the Expatriates that are in the E.U. the U.S.A. The Philippines. Finland  etc.

Why do they exclude the Expats in the Commonwealth Countries that came to their Aid in 1939/45?.

Having run Mrs Carson through the U.K. Courts and Appeal Court And the House of Lords supported by our Fellow Organizations in Australia, South Africa, they thought we would GIVE UP. Not Likely!.
Now they must answer to the thousands of our members WORLD WIDE in the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg By May The 12th This Year.
