Since retiring 20 years ago I have spent a lot of time doing the kind of little jobs for people that usually fall to the 'Man of the House'. I am sometimes considered to be 'difficult' but my excuse is I am a Yorkshireman.
You can always tell a Yorkshireman but you can't tell him much.
He believes that Modesty is an Inferiority Complex posing as a virtue.
I would like to say how sorry I am to the people born outside Yorkshire.. It must be so disappointing for you. There is a slight possibility that this poem may illustrate why I am sometimes misunderstood.

My Terms of Reference

Some people say I'm difficult? I don't believe it's true
I think I'm very placid so here's my point of view
I work because it pleases me, there's more to life than money
But there are things that you must know ..
though you may think them funny:

I'm a Multi-Faceted Craftsman?.. I'm not an Odd Job Man
I drive a smart estate car ? not a clapped out van.
I appreciate a coffee.. but failing that a tea
I hardly ever drink it.. but I think that's up to me.
I don't accept gratuities and it may not be intended
but the offer is degrading and I just feel offended.

I can walk the walk or talk the talk but you must tell me whether
You want the work or want the chat for I can't do both together
I always like to be on time.. I'm never ever late
But you don't have to be like me.. just don't assume I'll wait.
There's one more thing to bear in mind - and then we'll get along
I don't claim that I'm always right - but I'm very rarely wrong.
