Last year a woman I came to know put up a very hard fight for her grandson, alas, it wasn’t the SS that took the child away from her, it was her Son.
She was heartbroken and she asked me to write a poem for his life story book. She called him "her little man".
I cannot read this without shedding a tear

Her Little Man

I did my best to fight for you
my pain I didn't show
I fought a fight like no other
a fight to watch you grow

Some people I don't understand
their selfishness and lies
what makes people so wicked
to sever loving ties

At some point all great fighters
have to face defeat
but its a sorry stage
when beaten by a cheat

I had to let you go
to start a life anew
making that decision
was the hardest thing to do

I will love you always
and hope you understand
it was my love for you that forced me
to let go of your little hand

I will think of you always
and I will pray when I can
some day you will return
so I can hug my little man.
