  BURGLARS' PARADISE
George Kirby

I remember when our house doors never needed to be locked,
And the few who then owned cars never thought that they'd be twocked,

When police in very large numbers walked all over our town,

And those who transgressed the law were very soon sent down.

For other folks' homes the villains used to show much more respect,

Now things have changed completely, so what can we all expect?

When a householder inflicted injury on a burglar as he nicked him,

The law now turns the thing around and the burglar becomes the victim.

If the burglar sustains an injury whilst 'working' late on nights,

He claims that it's a serious breach of his very own human rights,

He'll quickly sue for compensation and huge sums will then be paid,

All financed by the honest folk because he's getting legal aid.

In the current situation burglars are laughing up their sleeves,

Whilst every law-abiding citizen simply sits at home and grieves,

And the idiotic, lenient sentencing shows us all how very much,

The judiciary, in their wisdom, are really totally out of touch.

A so-called first offence is really nothing of the sort,

It's more likely just the first time that the low-life has been caught,

Leaving many honest, decent people crying floods of tears,

The penalty for the first time housebreaker should be at least five years.

And no time off for 'being good,? as is the present daft position,

The sentence should be served in full, without any remission,

And if the prisons are overflowing, then these people know the score,

The public's wish would seem to be that they should build some more.

That would keep them off the streets and I'm sure than many women'll,

Breathe a sigh of great relief, now free of another criminal,

Safe from the low-life mugger and the other vicious thugs,

Who often leave court smiling as they claim to be full of drugs.

The place for all these burglars is behind the stoutest bars,

At least then they can't be burgling and stealing all our cars,

And if they come to their senses and don't want to do the time,

The answer is quite an easy one; do not commit the crime.

Imagine Christmas morning; the kids can't wait for Santa Claus to come,

They run downstairs to quickly learn they've been 'visited' by the scum,

Their presents have been taken; all sorts of filth have been created,

The decent public's had enough, this can't continue unabated.

**One professional burglar, recently, escaped imprisonment and yet he,

Violated someone's home when he was armed with a machete,

He walked from court all smiles when he should have been given time,

The judge said he was most impressed that the slug could write in rhyme.

It mattered not that he'd a record, as long as the proverbial arm,

And he deserved to be imprisoned where he could do no further harm,

But these decisions would appear to have the Lord Chancellor's blessing,

Though the law-abiding public is, I feel, most certainly left guessing.

It has always been instilled in me that crime will never pay,

But just try telling that little story to those who've fallen prey,

And to those who don't go out because they always feel afraid,

It's time the government realised the general public is dismayed.

----------

**some little time later this low-life was, in fact, put behind bars for a long time, having committed further equally vile crimes.
