About Seniors Network

Seniors Network is an information resource for older people and their organisations. It is a not for profit web site, is  completely independent and is not allied to any political party or other type of organisation.

The Seniors Network mission:
  • Connecting       Helping Seniors to make contact with other Seniors - to open doors to useful people and organisations

  • Informing           Acquainting Seniors with salient facts and
keeping them abreast of the latest developments

  • Inspiring             Presenting Seniors with ideas from various sources - to help in campaigns

  • Investigating      Helping Seniors to explore controversial issues

  • Seniors Network was founded and is run by John Lynch - on left -
captured on camera at Blackpool 2004 as he tried to snap others!!  On right is a snap of John and his wife of 46 years Betty. (taken a few years ago!!!)

John has always had a keen interest in electronics or as it used to be known as "wireless". He was called up for national service but signed on for 5 years as a Wireless Fitter in the RAF.  Served in Wiltshire, Little Rissington - Gloucestershire, Strubby (Manby) Lincolnshire, Aldergrove - Northern Ireland, Khormaksar -Aden and Christmas Island.
During his service on Christmas Island he developed a dislike for excessive Noise and bright lights - I wonder why?

After demob John worked for various electronics companies involved in Telecommunications (perhaps this is why he is reluctant to use a mobile?), Radar,  Instrumentation and computers.   Later he found that "troubleshooting" business problems was much more interesting than troubleshooting electronics problems. It was during this period that he developed some IT skills and picked up some knowledge about web sites.

When he retired, he helped out at a local Seniors Group (or Elderly group as it was known then).  He cajoled them into changing their name - to replace the word Elderly with Seniors.  He then set out to establish the term - Seniors - as a preferred term to describe older people - in most parts of the UK.  This has happened and is still happening.

It became obvious that the Seniors or older people of the UK had been let down - badly - by all political parties.  There were strong pensioners groups all over the UK who spoke the same message but didn't seem to speak together.  In some areas they resented each other and refused to work in harmony.

John realised that within a few years the Internet would develop and that it would become easier for people to use.  He set up Seniors Network to provide a focus for older people and to get them interested in computers and the internet.  At the same time he volunteered to assist the National Pensioners Convention (NPC).  He redesigned their web site and was their webmaster until recently.

John has developed an interest in genealogy coupled with an interest in Local History. To that end he has set up Monklands Online (http://www.monklands.co.uk).
He has also designed (voluntary) and still maintains web sites for Grandparents Apart (http://www.grandparentsapart.co.uk) and until recently - 2 Myasthenia Gravis web sites - which have since been "pulled" because of an inter-continental power struggle!
He designed and is volunteer webmaster for Scottish Model Buses (http://www.scottishmodelbuses.co.uk) and
Summerlee Transport Group - a Tram restoration group (http://www.monklands.co.uk/stg/).   Seniors Network had lots of information on Pensions and John decided recently that Pensions deserved a web site on its own.
    So http://www.pension100.co.uk was born.

The Seniors Network site has become very popular but, disappointingly,  there are still not enough Seniors using the Internet.  The good news is that Seniors groups are becoming more aware of each other and they are communicating better.  However there is still a little unhealthy competition and Forums are still very much like "talking shops".

The political parties are STILL using (abusing?) the state pension and pensioners as election fodder and always fail to keep promises.  The State Pension is still being treated as a benefit and not as a right - since it really is a contributory pension scheme.
There is still a long way to go.

    so the story continues ......

    Our Philosophy

Seniors Network is dedicated to provide a unique, informative, interesting, and entertaining Internet website for:
    • Seniors (adults 50+)

Seniors Network recognises that older persons, regardless of their situation, will often need information, support, direction, or help.

The goal is to make Seniors Network an outstanding experience for visitors - with content to suit all tastes (well almost all) - coupled with opportunities for individuals to voice ideas, opinions, and to submit their needs and concerns to local and national pensioner groups.

Seniors Network encourages all Seniors to take an interest in technology, computers and the Internet. It is educational, it is fun and it is a great way to keep in touch!
